Egypt, India Strategic Partnership

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi met Abdel Fattah el-Sissi during a rare visit to Cairo, Egypt. India and Egypt eye ‘strategic partnership’ with each other. Modi also praised his visit as historic.

India and Egypt also vowed to elevate trade and diplomatic ties as the leaders signed a joint declaration to elevate relations to a strategic partnership. It is the Prime Minister Modi’s first trip to North African countries.

The two nations pledged to intensify their cooperation and hold periodic talk. After the visit Modi also issued a statement on Twitter saying, “My visit to Egypt was a historic one. It will add renewed vigor to India-Egypt relations and will benefit the people of our nations”.

$12 billion in Annual trade

India is Egypt’s seventh-latgest trading partner surpassing the trade recording $7 billion last year. Modi said now he is hoping to increase this trade record to $12 billion annually.

Egypt also offered a potential dedicated land area for Indian industries in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The site could be used for $12 billion green hydrogen plant built by Indian firm ACME.

Modi Visited Cairo Mosque

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also visited Cairo Mosque for cultural significance, a rare engagement for a national Hindu Prime Minister. The Mosque was renovated by Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community that originated Modi’s home state of Gujarat.

Before visiting Egypt, Modi visited United States for four days official engagements where he also met with President Joe Biden.
