Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday, Friday the 19th July 2024 offered Pakistan’s support to Oman after terrorists attacked a mosque in the country’s capital, Muscat. The attack resulted in 6 casualties, including 4 Pakistanis and dozens of injured people.

The statement from his office came after Sharif’s meeting with the Omani ambassador to Pakistan Fahad Sulaiman Khalaf Al-Kharusi after the four dead bodies of the individuals killed in the terror attack arrived. The Daesh militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack unfolded as three gunmen identified as brothers opened fire at the Imam Bargah Ali bin Abu Talib mosque in Wadi Kabir district. The killed people also included an Indian and a local policeman who retaliated.

The PM office said in the statement that, “While appreciating Oman’s swift response and cooperation with the Pakistan Mission in repatriation of the dead bodies and treatment of the injured, the Pakistan PM said that the country has been a victim of terror attacks for the past several decades. He offered Pakistan’s support to Oman in dealing with the menace of terrorism that must be eliminated in all its forms”.

Daesh operations have indicated that the group is attempting a comeback after it was crushed by a US led coalition when it occupied lots of land in Syria and Iraq. It also inspired a lot of lone wolf attacks in the past in the western countries.

Any inroads in Gulf Arab oil producers like Oman is expected to raise tensions in Washington as the region had been witness to various militancy activity groups since quite a period of time.

Apart from supporting Oman in this regard, PM Shehbaz Sharif also spoke about extending bilateral relations and improving trade deals in energy, defence and investment.
