Yasmine Dar, Councilkor is the first female Asia Muslim Lord Mayor, the historic move of the authority is warmly welcomed by the diverse communities of the city.
Yasmine Dar is a labour councillor for Moston, she was elected to the ceremonial role at a council meeting. Yasmine Dar will serve for one year as lord mayor during the tenure she will represent the city at civic events and promote its interests.
Who is Yasmine Dar ?
Yasmine Dar was born in Doncaster, South Yorkahire, she lived in Manchester for more than 50 years and worked as passionate advocate for social justice.
She also worked in welfare sector for many years and also the founder of award-winning charity, “Community on Solid Ground”, which providea full support to young people in Whalley Range.
At the event of her acceptance speech she said, ‘humbled and honored’ to be appointed as Lord Mayor. She pledged to use her position to promote diversity and inclusion. She also promised to make Manchester city where everyone feels welcome.
Appointment of Yasmine Dar is a significant milestone for Manchester as the city has large and growing Asian Muslim population. The city showed its commitment to diversity and inclusivity proving to be an inspiration to other communities.

She will be supported by her brother Majid Dar, a former Manchester Councillor and her daughter Amina as Lady Mayoress.
