Ronaldo’s Goal Credited to Bruno

The Portuguese side advanced to the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar with a 2-0 victory over Uruguay at the Lusail Stadium thanks to a goal scored by Cristiano Ronaldo that was later credited to Bruno Fernandes. 

In a game with few and far between clear-cut opportunities, Fernandes curled a tease from the left that appeared to brush Ronaldo’s hair tips before finding the back of the net nine minutes into the second half.

Pitch Invasion by LGBTQ Protestor

The goal came after a pitch invasion, which saw a supporter leap onto the field with a rainbow-colored flag in apparent protest of LGBTQ rights in Qatar. 

Portugal’s Last Laugh

Four years ago, in Russia, Edinson Cavani’s two goals knocked Portugal out of the tournament. Although Portugal controlled the ball more in the first half, Rodrigo Bentancur missed both of Uruguay’s better chances.
