Saudi Arabia Backs Pakistan’s Mediation Efforts To Ease Regional Tensions

Saudi Arabia backs Pakistan mediation

Saudi Arabia backs Pakistan mediation in the region as part of broader efforts to ease tensions, a Saudi cabinet statement said Tuesday. Riyadh: Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman chaired a meeting, during which strong support was reiterated for the efforts led by Qatar and Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia Backs Pakistan Mediation To Reduce Tensions

The cabinet reviewed talks held Monday between the states party to the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan, and senior Iranian officials. It also underlined the essential function of those states in securing regional security and stability.

Pakistan’s Diplomatic Presence In Tehran

Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of the Defence Forces, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and the Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on October 26. Pakistan’s presence at that table is an indication of how much confidence regional capitals have in its diplomacy.

The region needs a new security architecture, and positive statements by Iran were cited by Qatar’s foreign ministry, which called for steps such as reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan’s consistent, dialogue-first policy is just the ticket.

Security Pressures And The Need For Dialogue

The Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have continued, and the cabinet has praised the kingdom’s air defences for intercepting repeated strikes targeting cities including Makkah and Madinah. Meanwhile, the Strait of Hormuz remains a site of turmoil that continues to pressure energy routes and shipping.

The central policy question is how to achieve sustainable results through mediation. Diplomacy would gain a firmer footing with verifiable ceasefire steps, safe passage for shipping, access for nuclear inspections and a regional framework with clear guarantees. Talking to both Riyadh and Tehran, Pakistan is well placed to help turn talks into commitments that also help stabilise energy prices at home.
