Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim landed at Noor Khan Airbase, located near the Islamabad International Airport and there he has been invited by the higher officials of Pakistan including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It has been reported that this is the first visit of Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim in Pakistan. On his 3 day official visit both the Prime MInisters of Malaysia and Pakistan will take part in various official events including meetings, agreements on cooperation, partnerships on economy and trade and diplomatic ties. All these are believed to fortify and rejuvenate the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The primary official meetings between the Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim and the higher officials of Pakistan led by PM Shehbaz Sharif focussed on the various disciplines including energy, trade, the halal industry, connectivity, tourism, people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges. It is followed by the signing of MoUs on two important agreements, they are
- Matrade and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan
- Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) AND the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have signed a letter of cooperation
Other Highlights of three-day official visit
- Exchange of opinions and views over the regional and international affairs which includes the Palestine conflict, Israeli invasion of Lebanon and the rising situations in the Middle East.
- Translated works of Allama Muhammad Iqbal will be launched in Bahasa Melayu by the Malaysian PM.
- Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim will deliver a lecture at NUST – National University of Sciences and Technology.
- PM Anwar Ibrahim will be honoured with the highest civilian award of Pakistan “Nishan-i-Pakistan” from Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari.
The two nations have shared their bond since 1957. It has been getting stronger through diplomatic ties, sharing historical, cultural, and religious connections. Their bond got even more congealed when both became the members in the OIC – Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This visit of the Malaysian PM helps to enhance the bilateral relations of these two countries.
