The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a written verdict on the July 25 hearing, suspending the non-bailable arrest warrant for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief in the contempt case.
The PTI chief is scheduled to appear before the commission on August 2 in a personal capacity. Additionally, the commission has accepted the PTI chairman’s lawyer’s request for the provision of case records.

Previously, on July 24, the ECP had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the PTI chairman in the same contempt case. The warrant was related to the PTI chairman’s alleged contempt of the Election Commission of Pakistan. However, the recent written order temporarily suspends this arrest warrant.
Furthermore, in August 2022, the ECP had decided to indict former Prime Minister and PTI chairman, Fawad Chaudhry, and Asad Umar in a case involving contempt of the electoral body.
The case was initiated after they were accused of using “intemperate” language against Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja and the electoral watchdog.
Subsidiary of PML-N
The PTI leaders had been critical of the commission and the CEC, referring to the electoral body as a “subsidiary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.”

The decision was made by a four-member commission, with Sindh member Nisar Durrani serving as the head of the commission that announced the reserved verdict based on PTI’s reservations.
