Imran Renews Call For Fresh Elections
In a meeting with members of the Punjab cabinet on Sunday, former prime minister Imran Khan renewed his call for new elections, linking them to the “betterment of the country” rather than his party — Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Separately, the former premier organised his third telethon for flood survivors, during which contributors from all over the world donated Rs3.6 billion to help the displaced people.
Imran Khan gave donors the assurance that the previous government will create a digital system to distribute the money raised during these telethons.
It should be mentioned that, according to the PTI chief, promises of Rs. 10 billion were made during the previous two telethons.
Meeting at the Punjab House
Mr. Khan expressed his congratulations to the Punjab ministers on their victory in the by-election on July 17 and declared that the PTI will achieve its goal of new general elections through its “peaceful battle” during the meeting at the Punjab House in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the topics of political personalities being victimised, media restrictions, and human rights breaches were discussed. The coalition partners also resolved to intensify their cooperation during the meeting and made the decision to deal with the issues made by the province MPs in a priority manner.
Additionally, it was determined to strengthen ties with the populace because the party will need to do so before the general election.
A Seasoned Politician
Mr. Khan called Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the chief minister, “a seasoned politician” and said that PTI would continue to back him.
It is pertinent to state that four motions were approved at the meeting. The first resolution offered support to those affected by the floods and referred to Imran Khan’s telethons as the “greatest approach to support” the survivors.

The second resolution lamented the price increase, while the third resolution affirmed confidence in Mr. Khan’s leadership. The fourth resolution condemned the exploitation of religion in the campaign against Mr. Khan.
Third telethon
Mr. Khan promised that the funds raised for the flood victims will be used in a transparent manner throughout the nation and that donors would have access to the database to follow the progress of the disbursements during the fundraising event.
A digitalized system had been put in place, Dr. Sania Nishtar had earlier told the crowd, to ensure transparency in the disbursement of monies.
One donor from Oman gave Rs. 10 million, and another from South Africa gave Rs. 15 million during the telethon. A party officer of the PTI’s US chapter also contributed Rs. 10 million to each of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Fawad’s Take on COAS Appointment
Separately, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry questioned former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s participation in the selection of the next chief of army staff. Sharif has been living in self-imposed exile in London since 2019.
“Khurram Dastgir has previously stated that the new army chief will be chosen by Nawaz Sharif.”
He referred to the PML-N supreme leader as a “criminal” and stated that the institution should now consider it.
