On Monday, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari said the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had plunged the country into economic turmoil.
He said only his party had what was required to run and manage the country’s affairs.
“PPP has dealt with every challenge thrown at it, and we are still ready to manage the country’s affairs.”
Taking an apparent dig at the military establishment, the former president said he was asked to assist and share some formula, but he asked ‘them’ to send this government packing, and then talks could be held.
Zardari said, “repeated experiments” had thrown the country into “turmoil”.
Asif Zardari said that he had already predicted that the PTI government could not deliver and last.

He said building Pakistan was easy, but “they (PTI) could neither build the nation nor had the capacity to manage its day-to-day affairs”.
He reiterated that he had warned that if the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is unleashed over the bureaucracy and the politicians, the incumbent government would “find it very difficult to function”. He said that various federal secretaries were reluctant about signing routine approvals as they were afraid of NAB.
Zardari, however, noted that the anti-graft watchdog had relaxed its approach, but the damage had already been done.
“The time would come soon when they would have to listen, understand and adhere to our advice,” Zardari said.
He recalled when there was no sugar and flour in Musharraf’s regime, adding that the PPP made the country flourish with both commodities.
“We ended the crisis within a year and started exporting these items,” the former president maintained.
He said his party had provided jobs to the poor masses.
“If providing jobs to the people is a crime, we would commit this crime forever.”
