UNICEF Peshawar Press Club Partnership Sets a New Direction

The partnership aims to strengthen media coverage of issues affecting children and raise public awareness of their needs and challenges. It will also support initiatives that safeguard children’s well-being, with room for information-sharing and joint activities.

A Ceremony Attended by Journalists and Club Leaders

The signing ceremony took place at the Peshawar Press Club on Thursday. Vice-President Zia-ul-Haq, Joint Secretary Gulzar Muhammad, Finance Secretary Irshad Ali, governing body members, senior journalists and bureau chiefs attended.

Speakers included Fasiha Sharif, communications consultant, General Secretary Alamgir Khan and senior journalist Shamim Shahid. They described the agreement as a significant development and claimed it was the first time a United Nations agency had signed an MoU with a press club, a claim that would mark an important milestone for Pakistani journalism if verified.

Responsible Journalism and Child Welfare

Speakers stressed that responsible journalism can inform the public, draw attention to the challenges children face and encourage action. Reliable coverage already helps public health efforts, as seen in Pakistan’s Cervical Cancer Vaccination Drive Highlights Need For Stronger Women’s Health Protection.

Regular training for reporters, access to dependable data and ethical reporting standards would help the partnership deliver lasting value. Strong local media engagement can keep children’s education, health and protection high on the public agenda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across Pakistan.
