Saudi Arabia defence support was pledged by Pakistan after ISPR Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the country will provide whatever support is needed to defend Saudi sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement reflects the depth of a long-standing partnership and Pakistan’s readiness to stand by a close brother nation.
Saudi Arabia Defence Support Pledged by Pakistan
The remarks follow rising regional tensions and recent Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, including a projectile strike at King Khalid International Airport. Against that backdrop, a clear public commitment offers reassurance to partners and sends a calm, steady signal about where Pakistan stands.
Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and the Holy Mosques
The commitment is tied to the collective security framework of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, signed by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Lieutenant General Chaudhry described the security of Saudi Arabia and the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah as paramount and non-negotiable for Pakistan.
He also noted that Pakistani military personnel have been stationed in various fields in the Kingdom for decades. That long presence gives the pledge practical credibility, and the wider relationship is reflected in Pakistan’s vow to stand with Riyadh amid regional tensions.
A Defensive Alliance With Stability in View
The alliance remains purely defensive in nature, a point that matters for regional confidence. Its purpose is deterrence and protection rather than confrontation, which fits Pakistan’s wider preference for calm diplomacy.
Close coordination among the three signatories, combined with continued political engagement across the region, would give the framework lasting value. Clear communication on roles and responsibilities would help ensure that Pakistan’s support, whenever required, is timely, proportionate and well understood by all partners.
