The Punjab by-elections are delayed from April 30, 2023 to 8th October, 2023 by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The spokesperson of Election Commission of Pakistan said that President also been informed about the postpone and new date announced.

Election Act 2017
The Spokesperson added that, elections were delayed under article 218(3) and Sections 58 and 8C of Election Act 2017. He further said that, “A meeting with all the stakeholder institutions and departments was held to review the schedule of Punjab election according to briefing, it is not possible to hold peaceful elections in current situation”.
Earlier while speaking to media, Interior Minister Rana Sana Ullah said that we are not fleeing away from elections but willing to manage elections on same date as announced. Parliament should guide government in this regard of general polls in Pakistan.
He added that, all the caretaker-setup in all provinces should be responsible for managing general elections and polls on same date would be level playing field for every candidate.
The President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi announced April 30 as the date for elections in Punjab. To which Chief Justice has said that the court will intervene if elections are not held in 90 days. The announced date April 30 is also exceeding the limit of election in 90 days according to law.

The announcement of April 30 was announced by President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi after considering the dates proposed by Election Commission of Pakistan. ECP delayed the elections keeping in mind the fact of economic and peace situation of Pakistan.
