Kane Williamson, ODI Captain of New Zealand Cricket Team got a knee injury while playing in Indian Premiere League. The batsman is set to miss ODI World Cup as he got Anterior Cruciate Ligament and will undergo surgery.

The player got injured in the first match of IPL for Gujarat Titans, the severity of injury is confirmed and doctor recommended him to undergo surgery within three weeks once the swelling on his knee is reduced.

The player while talking to media said that, “Naturally Its disappointing to get such an injury but my focus now is on having the surgery and starting rehab, its going to take some time but I will be doing everything I can to get back on field as soon as possible”.

How Player got Injured ?

During the 13th over of Super Kings innings, Kane Williamson had landed awkwardly to attempt a catch at deep square leg boundary. He managed to save two runs by palming the ball back in ground before it hits boundary but clutched his right knee badly.

The average score of Williamson in 161 ODIs is 47.63 with 13 centuries. His absence from world cup would be a huge loss for New Zealand as he is one of the best player of team.

New Zealand Coach Gary Stead said that, “You take Kane the player for a start but then Kane the leader and the person he is within our group as well, it’s a huge spanner in the works for us”.

He further said that, team is hoping for best and our first thoughts are with Kane at the moment, it’s tough time for him, the injury is hitting pretty hard.

In the absence of Williamson this year, New Zealand team will be managed by Tom Latham, in the ODI squad for upcoming Pakistan tour, it could prove as the frontrunner of the World Cup role.
