While the country tries to safeguard against the threat from ISIS and other global terror organisations, the IGP Islamabad has sent legal notices to 11 people it accuses of using social media to post false information to create unrest in the country. This measure came after the JIT study to determine personnel, who have been inciting the unrest on social media.
JIT Summons Key Suspects
Today, the JIT has called high-profile personalities, namely Sabghatullah Virk, Muhammad Arshad, -and Uroosa Nadeem Shah, inter alia. Legal notices have also been issued for Iqram Kathana and Taqweem Siddique. As the authorities have stated, except for the activities above, it has strong evidence pointing to the accused’s links with anti-state activities and organisations.
Other suspects have been revealed in the course of the investigation, and actions have been undertaken in accordance with the law with respect to the prevention of repeats of fake news.
Ongoing Crackdown on Anti-State Propaganda
Thus, this development follows prior activity, for example, the registration of cases against seven persons for the same violations this month. The accused namely Muhammad Sohail and Sheikh Muhammad Ehsan presumably employed WhatsApp and X (formerly Twitter) to create fake news.
