Economy Stabilizing, Prices Trending Down, Asserts Finance Minister

Recently, in a speech to the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Pakistan’s Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb outlined Pakistan’s ongoing attempt at economic revival. As for the importance of economic stability, Aurangzeb underlined that the daily economic losses connected with protests reached 190 million rupees. The minister specifically warned against disruptive measures and also highlighted that strategic actions for the development of trade and for attracting investment are inevitable.

The finance minister was frank about the economic issues at the same time as expressing a positive attitude. He provided a clear vision of the economic regeneration agenda and specifically stated that it is the private sector’s job to lead the regeneration of the economy. Not only the strategy-oriented aspects of Aurangzeb’s statements contain a realistic approach accompanied by a visionary outlook on the economy.

While journalists pressuring the government about the issue of prices coming down, Aurangzeb showed that he was truthful and that he was willing to answer to the people. “You are right,” he said, showing the willingness of the government to listen and change according to the need. The minister underlined the activation of the price control committees as one of the means of furthering the tangible concerns of the population, which demonstrated a concern with managing the economy.

In his case, Aurangzeb placed much importance on collaborative interaction and communication that fosters understanding. He said, “We have to sit together to arrive at some kind of consensus that comes down to the fact that, no matter what, some things are sacrosanct,” which also indicates its readiness to safeguard core economic assets. This approach gives a prescription of a moderate economic liberalization agenda but with social equity in mind.
