Dar Meets JI Delegation To Discuss Fuel Prices And Public Relief Measures

Dar JI fuel relief

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met a Jamaat-e-Islami delegation led by Liaquat Baloch to discuss rising petroleum prices and Dar JI fuel relief. Federal ministers and officials joined the talks, which centred on easing high fuel and energy costs for vulnerable groups.

Dar Ji Fuel Relief Talks Focus On Public Burden

The meeting indicates a government prepared to confront opposition parties and religious parties on an issue that touches every household. Dialogue of this kind helps to narrow differences and keep policy debate within institutional channels.

Demands, Government’s Position And Agreed Steps

Jamaat-e-Islami has called for the removal of the petroleum levy and has hinted that it will resume its march on Islamabad by mid-November if its demands are not met. The party said that principles of relief had been agreed in discussions for agriculture and for vehicles up to 1,000 cc.

The government said it was already working on its relief framework, and had a monthly contribution of PKR 15 billion from oil refineries that would reduce petrol prices by PKR 14.71. The two sides agreed to continue talks and prepare working documents on a phased reduction of the petroleum levy, a practical way to balance relief with fiscal stability.

Fuel Policy: The Path To Relief

An economy that has to protect revenue and ease pressure on consumers, particularly low-income families, farmers and motorcyclists, is best served by a phased approach. Transparent working papers and clear timelines would give households and businesses confidence on where fuel prices are headed.

The talks are ongoing, a sign of a political culture where differences are not settled by confrontation, but by negotiation. The prime minister’s promise on disaster-resilient communities, call to the UN Chief on peaceful resolution of Kashmir, the all-weather partnership with China and Pakistan’s role at the 81st UNGA session also fit into a wider agenda of stability and cooperation. If the working papers give an agreed formula, public relief and economic discipline can move forward together.
