Balochistan Assembly PAC chief Asghar Ali Tareen has taken notice of a financial irregularity of around PKR 7.71 billion in the provincial government accounts. The review is both a reflection of the committee’s oversight role and a clear call for more financial discipline in the province.

An audit report revealed a difference between the provincial financial statements showing PKR 23.06 billion and the State Bank of Pakistan records showing PKR 15.29 billion as of 30 June 2023. The difference is caused by poor record-keeping and lack of reconciliation between departments.

The committee also talked about irregularities at BUITEMS in the matter of allowances and scholarships. Public scrutiny of public institutions protects money for students, teachers and public services.

Chairman Tareen gave a deadline of 45 days for resolution of audit objections and establishment of regular reconciliation mechanisms. He said there will be no tolerance for financial irregularities and negligence.
