Senate Passes National Forensic Agency Bill, Aims to Modernize Forensic Services

Latest in legislation, the Senate of Pakistan has unanimously approved the National Forensics Agency Bill, 2024 thus making the National Forensics Agency NFA an autonomous body. The bill presented by Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi intends to incorporate digital and cyber forensics to counter higher electronic crimes like deep fake and other digital crimes.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, who moved the bill, pointed out the urgent need for a proper forensic facility in every province of the country. The new agency will offer forensic services to every province and territory including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir to address the problem of fragmentation of the forensic system. 

The NFA aims at enhancing investigation measures and guaranteeing the adherence to the said procedures in the whole country by widening from the laboratory established in Lahore in 2010 and by setting up new and modern laboratories.

The Senate also approved the Legal Aid and Justice Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2024 which transfers the administrative right to the Law Ministry and to recommend free legal aid to the deserving people.
