Unmistakable signs of rise of coronavirus in Pakistan: Asad Umar

Citing a significant increase in the number of Covid-positive cases, Planning Minister and Focal Person for the Coronavirus Asad Umar has asked the countrymen to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to avoid further lockdowns.

In his tweets on Thursday, he said the government otherwise may have to take restrictive actions which will have negative effects on the livelihoods of the people, Radio Pakistan reported.

The Minister said there are unmistakable signs of the rise of coronavirus in the country. He said the national positivity of Covid-19 cases was 2.37 percent yesterday. This is the highest positivity in more than fifty days. He said 11 virus deaths on average have been reported during the first four days of this week.

“National positivity of covid cases was 2.37pc yesterday. This is the highest positivity in more than 50 days. Last time this level was seen on August 23. [During the] first four days of this week covid deaths average is 11 per day..highest since the week of August 10. Unmistakable Signs of the rise of the corona,” Umar tweeted from his official account.

The government had been successful in managing the spread of the virus in the country by ordering strict guidelines and announcing smart as well as blanket lockdowns across high-risk cities and neighborhoods.

However, all of that is being undone by the people in the country who are refusing to wear masks or stick by the minimum procedures.

After cases fell below the mark of 500 per day, the number is rising yet again. The cases picked up momentum on the back of gatherings due to Eidal Azha and Muharram processions. However, with the lifting of lockdowns and reopening of businesses, restaurants, and schools, the number of cases and deaths is on the rise yet again.
