Pakistan has achieved a breakthrough in expanding its diplomatic outreach with the appointment of Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan as the country’s first-ever non-resident ambassador to Armenia, marking a significant development in Pakistan Armenia relations. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Armenia Muhammad Khan presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan during a ceremony in Yerevan. It is an important milestone in the development of relations between Pakistan and Armenia.
The appointment provides a formal ambassadorial channel to the newly established diplomatic relationship and provides greater scope for regular political engagement. Khan will be Pakistan’s ambassador to Armenia, while continuing to serve as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. This will allow Islamabad to maintain diplomatic representation through a non-resident arrangement.
