The court has extended the judicial remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan along with PTI’s Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi until September 26 after hearing was held in the Attock Jail for the Cipher case.

The hearing was conducted by Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain who reached the Attock jail and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Prosecutor Zulfiqar Naqvi, and Imran Khan’s lawyers Barrister Salman Safdar and Naeem Haider Panjutha appeared before the court.

The hearing was conducted after a notification was issued by the Law Ministry expressing their no objection for conducting the trial of the case against Imran Khan in Attock jail. The judge in the case had requested the ministry to let the proceedings be held in Attock jail due to security reasons.

After Imran Khan’s three-year jail term in the Toshakhana case was suspended, it was revealed that he was also in judicial remand in the cipher case. The remand was initially until September 13 but as per the new orders, his remand has been extended for 14 more days until September 26. The court has directed the FIA to submit a challan during the next hearing on September 26.

In the Cipher case, Imran Khan has been accused of loosing a diplomatic document which had reportedly went missing from his possession. The PTI and its leaders had alleged that the document contained a threat from the United States for the ouster of Imran from government.

Following the suspension of the PTI chairman’s three-year jail term in the Toshakhana case, it emerged that he had been in judicial remand in the cipher case, which was extended till September 13 last week.

Meanwhile, PTI’s Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi also appeared before the special court in the same case at the Federal Judicial Complex (FJC) Islamabad. He was brought to the FJC by police and his judicial remand was also extended to September 26 by the court.

The hearing will commence on September 26 for both leaders of the PTI.
