Pakistani passport
Pakistani nationals who wish to travel abroad for employment, educational or family visits or vacation need to apply for a Pakistani Passport. The process is determined if the applicant is getting a new passpor or renewing a passport or for children. The following is a Pakistani passport application guide covering information about where to apply, what documents are required, passport fees and processing times from Pakistan’s Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGI&P).
Who Should Apply In Person?
To get a first passport in Pakistan, go to the Regional Passport Office (RPO) or the passport office where you need it, with the necessary documents. Even though a citizen has the address of the passport office in their CNIC/NICOP, they can apply to any passport office. Applications are accepted online for renewals for people in Pakistan and abroad, and for some other types of applications for OPs. Review eligibility criteria prior to completing an online form.
Documents To Keep Ready
Those who are 18 years and older must have their original and valid CNIC or NICOP and also a photocopy if they have a previous passport. Employees of Government, government-owned, and autonomous bodies might be required to obtain a no-objection certificate. Dual nationals should ensure they have a copy of their foreign passport and their own passport. A police report with the previous passport number is needed for a lost passport.
Requirements vary with age for children. People aged 10 years and older should have a new Child Registration Certificate with a picture and fingerprints, or a Juvenile Card. For younger children, a CRC/Form-B or Family Registration Certificate is required. Parents’ valid identification is also needed and a parent or legal guardian/court guardian should accompany the child. Additional papers may be needed for custody or guardianship cases.
How To Apply And Pay
At the passport office, staff take the applicant’s photograph and issue a token. Fingerprints are recorded, personal details entered and checked, and the application goes through record verification and an interview or decision by an authorised officer. Check the token and entered details carefully to prevent delays. Give a valid mobile number and email address for status updates.
A standard 36-page machine-readable passport valid for five years costs Rs. 4,500 under normal service or Rs. 7,500 under urgent service. A 10-year passport costs Rs. 6,700 normally or Rs. 11,200 urgently. Fees differ for passports with more pages and for e-passports; extra service charges may apply at some facilities. Check the official fee chart before paying.
How Long Does It Take?
DGI&P lists processing targets of 21 working days for normal service, five working days for urgent service and two working days for fast-track service in 47 cities. These periods exclude courier delivery, and extra checks may affect individual cases.
Before applying, confirm the latest rules, fees and office details on the official DGI&P passport website. Use government portals, provide accurate information and keep your payment record. A complete application can help avoid preventable delays.
