Assistant to PM on Health Dr. Mirza tests positive for Covid-19

Special Assistant to the PM on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza on Monday said he has tested positive for the Covid-19 but said he is only showing mild symptoms.

In a tweet, Mirza said

Last week, the country’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also tested positive for Covid-19 after which he isolated himself.

Several of the country’s ministers and assembly members have tested positive for the Covid-19. Members, exposed to public for a long period of time, have been blatantly ignoring all safety measures and refuse to wear the masks as seen during the meeting pictures.

Railways Minister Shaikh Rasheed, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif and Sindh Assembly Leader Saeed Ghani have all tested positive and fortunately recovered from the virus in the last two months.

Moreover, former Balochistan governor Syed Fazal Agha, Punjab MPA Shaheed Raza, Sindh Minister Ghulam Murtaza Baloch and MNA Munir Khan have died after contracting the virus.

The country’s confirmed Covid-19 cases have crossed the 231,000 mark with more than half at 131,466 successfully recovering from the disease. The pandemic has so far caused the death of 4,762 patients.

As of July 6, Sindh leads the tally with around 95,000 cases followed by 82,000 from Punjab, 28,200 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 11,000 from Balochistan.

In a good news, the Punjab province has reported a sharp reduction in the number of cases.

Punjab CM Usman Buzdar said that “there has been a prominent reduction” in the number of coronavirus cases reported from areas placed under smart lockdown.

Sharing the updates in a tweet, he said “around 10 to 15 coronavirus hotspots were sealed as per the directions issued by the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s smart lockdown strategy. The strategy, he said, has  resulted in a lower number of infections.”

“Random sampling also showed encouraging results. Many areas have been completely reopened.”
