The Punjab Police Chief approved the comeback of 5000 ex-army personnel to get back on their duties in provincial capital to discharge their duties for security purposes and help the police station staff during sensitive matters.
5000 army personnel would include retired army persons and ex-servicemen of Pakistan army. There are 84 police stations are working in the city and maintaining law & order during VVIP movements and sensitive situations is difficult.
Core duties in the city
According to the officials, the newly deployed staff would ease the burden of police force in performing their duties and core functions in the city. The hiring of ex-army men would also help the burden on Punjab government as the force would be already trained.
Hiring young and new force would cost a lot on training and professional learning for Punjab government. Hiring ex-army personnel would also save time and finance. The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar granted the approval to raise the new force in a meeting with police seniors at Central Police office Lahore.
The deployment will be start from hiring newly retired Ex-army personnel for speciliased duties like VVIP security, cricket matches, campaigns, religious festivals, judicial duties and national census. The IGP informed the police officers that police department is struggling to perform many duties, hiring of new force would ease the burden and strengthens the security.
There is also an increase in street crime rates and police stations staff is paying a heavy cost in controlling these crimes. Police officers are even busy in maintaining law and order situation of city and deployed on assignments in other parts but not in police stations.
This new hiring would help them offer their duties in police stations and listens to complaints of public. More than 8000 policemen are currently on duty for PSL, 4000 for national census and 2500 for Raiwind congregation and 1000 are deployed for security movement of Prime Minister and other senior officials.

All these deployments caused increase in daily crime rate and fighting scenes. The IG police directed the police officers to start working on plan to start new hiring of ex-army personnel, retired as well as ex-service men. The hiring plan will be start as soon as possible according to the plan.
