 Pakistan Pakistan

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has allowed women to change their surname after they get married.

The new policy will enable women to choose whether they want to retain their father’s name or change it with their husband’s name post marriage.

The stern policy that required women’s surnames to be replaced by their husbands’ names after their marriage has been revoked while a special department comprising NADRA’s female employees has been formed which will frame a separate policy for their registration.

He added that a special department – based on female members – for making a policy for female registration with NADRA for the acquisition of a National ID Card (NIC) has been made. Moreover, Malik paid a special tribute to the women social workers’ team that worked tirelessly in Jacobabad for the successful registration of 5,000 women with NADRA. He said that all women should get their NICs issued at the earliest.
