US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said Friday the US President Joe Biden would talk to Prime Minister Imran Khan soon.
“I have an idea that every country wants to have a telephonic conversation with the US President. I am sure that this conversation with Imran Khan will be held soon.”
Sherman, Talking to the editors here on Friday, said the Biden administration was aware of Pakistan’s concerns and was looking at the situation closely.
Answering a question about the bill presented by 22 Republican senators targeting Pakistan, she said, “We get hundreds of bills every day with thousands of people behind them. The point to press upon it is that we are aware of Pakistan’s concerns and are looking at the situation closely”.

Sherman reached Islamabad on Thursday from India and went straight into delegation-level talks with Moeed Yusuf – the National Security Advisor. Both sides discussed the scenario in Afghanistan and ways to further cooperation across the bilateral relationship. Sherman was accompanied by Assistant Secretary for Central and South Asia Mr Donald Lu. Views.
Sherman also met Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa.
However, as per diplomatic sources, PM Imran Khan turned down the request to hold talks with the US Deputy Secretary of State.
Before Islamabad, Sherman was in Mumbai, where she had made it clear that the US was not interested in a multidimensional relationship with Pakistan, beyond Afghanistan.
“I want to make it clear that my visit to Pakistan is for a very narrow purpose, and the US does not see itself indulging a broad relationship with Pakistan. That is not where we are now. That is not where we are going to be”.
Sherman’s statements and PM Imran’s refusal to meet her signifies that US-Pakistan ties are experiencing a hefty diplomatic dip and will continue to do so in the coming days.
