Pakistan, on Tuesday, announced the launch of its locally-developed Covid-19 vaccine ‘PakVac’, as the country gears up to run a massive Covid-19 vaccination drive all across.
The National Command and Control Authority (NCOC) has set the target of providing 70 million jabs to the locals.
PakVac vaccine is manufactured by the Ministry of Health, aided by China’s Cansino Bio. It has been launched after rigorous quality control checks. So far, the Health Department has been ordered to prepare three million jabs of PakVac.
As per media reports, the manufacturing and packing of the PakVac vaccine have been carried out at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Asad Umar, said the Covid-19 pandemic has become a major challenge for the world and COVID-19 vaccines top the demand list of today.
“We need to promote the PakVac as it is solely produced by us,” he said. “This is indeed a revolution.”

He congratulated the teams in Pakistan working on this, along with their Chinese teammates who aided and assisted in the vaccine packaging process.
The NCOC head said the scenario of the pandemic in Pakistan was getting better because of the grace of Allah Almighty. Umar, meanwhile, said that people still need to be very careful as the disease does not care about any boundaries and does not discriminate on the basis of family and religion.
On the other hand, Pakistan reported the lowest positivity count since March 1 this year.
The NCOC announced the arrival of 500,000 more doses of the Sinopharm vaccine.
The efficacy of the vaccine, In the Pakistani subset, at preventing cases stood at 74.8pc as per the official data.
Pakistan wants to vaccinate a maximum number of people before the festivity of Eid-al-Adha which will be celebrated with full zeal and zest.
