Prime Minister Imran Khan has tested positive for COVID-19,i is self-isolating at his residence
Prime Minister Imran Khan has tested positive for COVID-19. Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to PM on Health, took to Twitter on Saturday and confirmed that the Premier has tested positive for the disease and is in self-isolation at his residence.
“PM Imran Khan has tested positive for Covid-19 and is self-isolating at home,” Faisal Sultan said in his tweet.
Significantly, this news has come days after the Prime Minister took the first dose of the Chinese Sinopharm COVID-19 -vaccine. After receiving the vaccine shot, he had appealed to all citizens to continue compliance with COVID-19 precautions in the wake of surging infected cases across the country.
The Ministry of National Health Services also issued a statement, noting that PM Imran was not fully vaccinated when he contracted the disease. The Ministry asserted that the PM took the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine only two days before contracting the virus. Furthermore, the ministry underlined that it is too soon for any vaccine to become effective, as anti-bodies develop 2-3 weeks after the second dose of the 2-dose vaccine.

PTI Senator Faisal Jaiswal also tweeted that PM Imran is experiencing mild symptoms. He added that while self-quarantining at home, the Premier will continue to work over video conference.
Prime Minister’s special assistant on political communication Shahbaz Gill also took to Twitter, saying that the Premier has “very mild cough and fever”. He further wished him a speedy recovery.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has tested positive for COVID-19. He is in quarantine at his residence. Thank God their symptoms are not severe. Very mild cough and mild fever. May Allah heal them soon. Amen. Inshallah you will keep up to date with their health,” Shahbaaz Gill tweeted.
Over the past two days, the Prime Minister had a busy schedule. He visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where he chaired key meetings. Furthermore, he also met Kuwait foreign minister Ahmad Nasser Al Mohammad Al Sabah and exchanged documents with him.
Pakistan is witnessing a third wave of the pandemic amid rising cases of COVID-19 infection. On Saturday, the country recorded its highest single-day surge in the number of infections in 2021 with 3,876 new cases. At the same time, the Coronavirus positivity rate has also increased to 9.4 percent in the country, as per the figures released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to vaccinate all healthcare workers and senior citizens aged above 60 years in line with its vaccination drive launched on February 2. Pakistan’s healthcare authorities are using the China-made Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine, which has reportedly proved to be 79% effective against the disease, in its vaccination drive.
