50 dead in Pakistan Monsoon flooding

At least 50 people are killed and more than 80 are heavily injured due to flood and landsliding caused by monsoon rain related incidents. Starting from June 25, 2023 monsoon rains in different areas caused a lot of life and infrastructure damage to the country.

A large number of deaths occurred in Punjab where buildings and electric poles collapsed was the main reason for damage. Eight children lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to landsliding at Shangla district.

The rescue teams are still working at the place of landsliding as more children are still missing who may be trapped under the debris.

The second largest city of Pakistan, Lahore also experienced heavy rainfall leading to infrastructure damages and flooding in many areas. Heavy rainfall also caused the shutdown of electricity and water during the last week.

Record-breaking rainfall in coming days

The Met department of Pakistan predicted heavy rainfall in coming days, particularly in areas near to Punjab’s major rivers. Punjab Disaster Management authority is also on high alert for taking measures in case of relocating people living near to waterways.

Pakistan also faced heavy rainfall and flood last year claiming many lives. Although country is not responsible for global greenhouse gas emissions, it is still the one most vulnerable to global climate changes.

The country needs to adapt the international methods to prevent the dangers of climate changes.
