Younus confirmed as batting coach for two years

The Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday confirmed the appointment of former captain Younus Khan as the national team’s batting coach for two years as it looks to prepare for the upcoming T20 world cup.

“The PCB will also be utilizing Younis Khan’s expertise and skills when he’s not on national duty as he will help local batsmen hone their skills,” the PCB’s Chief Executive Officer Wasim Khan.

“This is part of the PCB’s strategy to appoint highly-qualified and respected coaches across all major centers of the country so that we can start producing cricketers who can represent Pakistan with distinction,” he added.

The PCB also said that Younus will continue to serve as the coach for the side until at least the 2022 T20 World Cup. The T20 world cup will be played in Australia in October – November of the said year.

Younis is considered one of the best batsman that the country has ever produced. He has scored more than 10,000 runs through 34 hundreds in 118 Tests, and also played 265 one-dayers and 25 T20 internationals for Pakistan.

He also led the side to its first and only T20 world cup win. Confirming his appointment, the 42-year-old former captain said that he was thankful for such and an opportunity and pleased to take up the job on a long-term basis.

“I am particularly happy that my scope of work has been extended beyond the national duties,” he said. “I am equally interested and keen at working at the domestic level by identifying potential batsmen and then helping them improve their skills.”
