In a statement delivered at the launch of the climate smart agriculture activity in Faisalabad, US ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome said that the US is making strategic investments to help better position Pakistan to meet the consequences of climate change.

Blome noted that the US has already contributed $1 billion to the Green Climate Fund, unlocking millions of dollars in climate mitigation and adaptation projects. “In agriculture alone, our investments have benefited more than 1 million rural households.”

US seeking to better support farmers in Pakistan

Speaking about the US-funded climate smart agriculture activity, Blome highlighted that through the five-year $24 million project, the US seeks to support farmers in Pakistan through sustainable tools and practices – suitable for business and the environment.

The project reflects an ambition to enhance the integration of agriculture development and climate responsiveness. It is going to bring farmers climate resilient seeds, conservation practices and eco-friendly pest management.

Blome noted that unpredictable environmental conditions such as alarmingly high temperatures and irregular precipitation are making it harder for Pakistani farmers to produce crops that support their families and feed the nation at the same time.

US helping Pakistan better address climate consequences

In September, The US ambassador to Pakistan launched ‘Recharge Pakistan’ – an ambitious climate initiative aimed at strengthening flood resilience and enhancing resource security in some of the most vulnerable regions in the country.

During the inaugural ceremony at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services in Islamabad, Blome said that the US is going to continue to deepen bilateral relations to protect communities susceptible to climate change, to ensure a greener and more prosperous future.
