UAE invited Syria to COP28 Summit

The United Arab Emirates has invited Syrian President Bashar Al Assad to the COP28 Climate Summit which is going to be held in December 2023 in Dubai. UAE placed Syrian President in the same venue as Western leaders who have opposed and sanctioned him for years.

The COP28 Summit invitation was given by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed and UAE embassy in Damascus tweeted the same on their official twitter account.

What is COP 28 ?

COP28 is an initiative by United Arab Emirates to have clean energy resources by the year 2050. It is committed to an inclusive COP process that produces transformational solutions.

Thousand of World leaders, Climate and energy experts, diplomats from around the world will participate in the COP28.

This year Syria is going to attend first Arab League meeting in its 11 years, as Arab States are warming Syrian President back after isolating him over a decade following the deadly crackdown and brutal civil war.

The bilateral relationship between Syria and Arab countries ramped up when Turkey and Syria got hit by Earthquake.

Now the Arab countries, including United Arab Emirates have actively sought to re-establish ties with Damascus, while the United States commented that it does not see the merit in Assad’s re-admission to the Arab league.
