Pakistan, UAE deepen ties as trade crosses $10.9 billion

In a strong show of growing friendship, the United Arab Emirates’ Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is set to arrive in Pakistan for a two-day official visit, April 20-21, 2025.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, this important visit reflects the long-standing brotherhood and trust between the two nations. The visit is expected to boost cooperation in areas like trade, investment, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.

Pakistan and UAE – More Than Just Trade Partners

  • Much strengthened, besides the diplomatic and economic ties, the bonds between Pak and the UAE have gotten stronger.
  • In fact, during a recent briefing, Pak Ambassador to UAE, Faisal Tirmizi, revealed that
  • Significantly, bilateral trade topped $10.9 billion during the 2023-24 fiscal year, comprising goods and services.
  • Even more impressive, remittances from the Pakistani community in the UAE during 2024, which are expected to surpass that figure in 2025, hit $6.7 billion.

Pakistan Exports Rise Trade Deficit Falls

  • Total trade in goods during FY23-24 remained $8.41 billion.
  • Pakistan’s exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) included an impressive 41.06 percent increase, corresponding to $2.08 billion.
  • Import from UAE down by 14.45 percent to $6.33 billion.
  • Consequently, there was a 28.28 percent decline in the trade deficit of Pakistan.
  • This brings us to $2.56 billion in trade-in services, which has increased by 20.54 over last year’s figure.

In the same breath, Rwanda’s Foreign Affair Minister, Ambassador Olivier J. P Nduhungirehe, is also making a two-day visit to Pakistan from this Monday. He comes to Pakistan at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, which is another witness to Pakistan’s strengthening global diplomacy.
