‘The Legends of Maula Jatt’ release stalled in India

Pakistani movie blockbuster “The Legends of Maula Jatt” has faced a lot of criticisms and roadblocks in India before its release. The 2022 film scheduled for its launch in India on 2nd October, 2024 has been cancelled. Reasons being cited are political and social tensions between the two countries.

Nadeem Mandviwalla one of the top movie distributors of Pakistan stated “The Indian ministry has obtained a stay order from a court against the release of the film so that the screening is stalled.”

He added that until the court gives its decision the movie’s release will be withheld. He also believes that the cult classic will be a big hit in Indian Punjab as it has been in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

On September 18, director Bilal Lashari announced that the movie will be released in the Indian state of Punjab across theatres by Zee Studios in collaboration with Zindagi but due to a ban its release seems off the track. The movie shattered box office records across Pakistan and worldwide after its release in movie theatres and halls earning a record 400 crore PKR in 2022. 

The film stars Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Humaima Malik and Hamza Ali Abbasi in lead roles. The last Pakistani film that made it to Indian cineplexes was Bol starring Atif Aslam and Humaima Malik in the year 2011.
