(C)DP,rain predicted to clear smog over pakistan
Islamabad: As smog and fog covered Pakistan’s major cities and caused massive inconvenience in transportation and severe health issues, relief is expected in the form of weather that may bring much-needed respite from the noxious gases filling the polluted air. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, starting from Thursday, November 14, widespread rain will bring much-needed relief to the inhabitants of the province. According to the PMD, rain showers along with thunderstorms and snowfall are expected to hit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Punjab, thus ridding the pollutants from the air.
Relief in Weather for Northern Regions
The PMD forecasted that a frontal system will approach the northern side of Pakistan on November 14 in the evening and will continue to rain and thunderstorms till November 16. Heavy rain is expected in the districts of Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Murree, and Galliyat, while snowfall is also possible over the mountains. This downpour will likely ease the health and environmental damage due to persistent smog, giving respite to the residents from the thick fog impairing visibility and air quality.
Widespread Rainfall is expected for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Rain will extend from Rawalpindi and Faisalabad into Lahore and Bannu. Thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and central Punjab in the next two days. Isolated light showers and scattered rain are likely to take place on November 15 in Balochistan, where Quetta, Zhob, and other districts may expect rains. The rain will scatter pollutants but improve conditions in the very densely populated plains of Pakistan, although, at the same time, it might increase fog in low-lying areas after the rains.
