PMD Issues Mild Heatwave Alert for Southern Pakistan Starting Today; The Cities That Will Hit 45°C This Weekend – Full List!

PMD heatwave alert 2026

A mild heatwave has been announced over various areas of southern Pakistan by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), with PMD heatwave alert 2026 indicating temperatures will be considerably above normal between April 29 and May 3, 2026.

The temperatures in Upper Sindh, South Punjab and even parts of Balochistan are predicted to remain 4 °C to 6 °C higher than the seasonal averages as shown in the latest forecast. Having daytime temperatures around 43C to 45C is possible in several districts, with a few areas frequently exposed to heat surpassing that slightly on the weekends.

It has sounded alarms, as Pakistan heads into the first days of the summer season, and the government is urging citizens to also take preemptive action against dehydration and heat exhaustion, and even power-related frustrations that may be caused by the high demand for electricity.

Full List Of Cities That Are Likely To Experience The Hottest Temperatures Over The Weekend

The PMD has been able to name several cities and areas which are likely to be affected the most during the current heatwave spell. It is likely to continue to have the most impact on interior Sindh and southern Punjab.

Dry Parts Of Sindh Are Exposed To Extreme Heat

A few districts in the Upper Sindh are predicted to reach, or near 45 C, in the afternoon seasons. These include:

  • Dadu
  • Jacobabad
  • Larkana
  • Sukkur
  • Khairpur
  • Ghotki
  • Nowshero Feroze
  • Shaheed Benazirabad

As a result, Jacobabad and Dadu are still among the hottest places in Pakistan in the summer season and could set their records for the highest temperatures in the country this week.

Heatwave In South Punjab Cities

Dry weather conditions are also likely to be experienced in the plains of the southern Punjab districts, which are likely to be hit by the heatwave. The worst hit cities are:

  • Multan
  • Bahawalpur
  • Rahim Yar Khan
  • Dear Ghazi Khan

Careful irrigation schedule management and avoidance of crops under heat stress are being advised in agricultural communities in these areas.

Districts Of Balochistan Are Projected To Be A Very Hot Area

Sibi and Turbat in Balochistan are also expected to be under the extreme heat conditions over the weekend. The two cities are also known to have high temperatures in the country, especially in the summer season.

The temperatures will not be extreme, but the humidity will not be comfortable in Karachi.

Although it is assumed that the interior of Sindh will be in dire heat conditions, Karachi might have a little milder conditions within the sea breezes of the Arabian Sea. And yet, weather analysts caution that high levels of humidity may make temperatures much more tolerable, compared to the actual temperatures.

In the upcoming days, the city is most likely to be warm and humid with an approximate temperature of 30-35 degrees in the afternoon, which equals the feels-like temperature. Karachi has not experienced the worst of the inland heat yet, but the residents have been left with the advice to be cautious.

Temporary Relief To Northern Pakistan In Terms Of The Weather

On the other hand, relatively cooler conditions may be witnessed in the upper part of Pakistan compared to the southern areas, at the same time of the year. PMD estimates suggest that a distinct western weather pattern might lead to drops of 20-5F (-1 °C to -4 °C), in some places of the north.

The cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir can experience relatively cool weather as compared to the excessive heat growing up in the southern districts. This contrast brings out this array of weather patterns experienced in Pakistan.

Heatwave Creates Issues Of Power Demand And Has Overburdened The Infrastructure.

The high temperatures will cause more people to consume more power in the country as more households and businesses depend on fans, coolers, and air-conditioning units. The authorities have cautioned that electricity demand might strain the power system in Pakistan further.

PMDs’ Safety Recommendations To The Citizens During The Heatwave

The government has also encouraged people to stay home rather than go outside and expose themselves to the extreme heat in the afternoon (11-4 PM). Employees who work outdoors, children, and the elderly are assumed to be more susceptible to heat-related illness.

Health professionals suggest drinking water regularly (not at the time of thirst), wearing light-colored cotton fabrics, and being in shaded conditions as much as possible. During the periods of heatwave, farmers in the affected areas have been advised to make sure that crops in the affected areas are adequately irrigated.

During Severe Weather Conditions, Pakistan Is Enhancing Awareness Of Climate

The recent PMD alert indicates an increased awareness of climatic conditions and better systems of early warning to assist in the preparation of communities towards extreme weather conditions. The intensity and frequency of heatwaves have also been rising in South Asia over the past few years and have put an extra strain on high population centres, agricultural practices and health systems.
