pakistans lone hope arshad nadeem to take field today
Pakistan’s hopes for a medal at this year’s olympics rest solely on the shoulders of Arshad Nadeem, Javelin thrower who would be seen competing against India’s Neeraj Chopra in Group B. Besides Chopra and Nadeem, the group further features World No 5 Edis Matusevicius and World No 6, Anderson Peters, who breached the 90 metre mark this year.
The live action of Group B at the Stade de France would begin at 2.50 pm Pakistan Standard time. The games would be telecast at Pakistan’s first HD Sports channel A Sports and will be streamed live via ARY Zap. 84 metres have been set as the criteria for the final round of the Javelin Throw, scheduled to take place on Thursday at the same place.
A total of 12 athletes would proceed to the final round. However if the allotted athletes do not pass the 84 range mark then the athletes with the next best throw would proceed further.
Arshad Nadeem is the only remaining athlete to have kept Pak’s hope of winning a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 this year. All the other athletes of Pakistan have been knocked out of the tournament.
Pak’s last medal in the Olympics was during the 1992 Olympic Games held in Barcelona. After that there has been a continuous drought for medals.
However Arshad is confident and spoke in his statement in Lahore, “I am fit and well prepared and have worked really hard for this prestigious event. I feel I can achieve my goal of winning a medal.”
