The AI technology made by team led by Dr Ayesha Zeb, has detected the sweetness of friit with 80% accuracy without damaging the fruit during the process.
Damage-free fruit classification
The Researchers of NUST selected 92 different citrus fruit breeds from Chakwal district. The team used NIR spectroscopy to examine the fruit sample. Out of 92 fruits, 64 were used for calibration and 28 for prediction via the spectrometer.
Pakistan, being the sixth largest producer of Citrus fruit is going to gain a lot from this advanced technology.
The project was a collaborative effort led by Dr Ayesha Zeb and Dr Mohsin Islam Tiwana from the National Centre of Robotics and Automation at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST); Dr Waqar Shahid Qureshi from School of Computer Science.
