Pakistan purchases Sinopharm from China, administration to start soon

Pakistani authorities have confirmed that the country has purchased Covid-19 vaccine from China for the first time since the vaccine administration started in the country. On Tuesday, the health ministry confirmed the new saying that they have signed an agreement with the Chinese company Sinopharm.

As per the directive issued by the officials, the vaccines will be delivered to Pakistan in phases. The first batch, however, is scheduled to be delivered on February 16. The sources from the ministry revealed that the first priority will be given to the frontline healthcare workers and the elderly people.

This is after a vaccination drive to inoculate people who are above 60 years along with healthcare workers is already underway. The move has come in regards with other precautionary measures that are being taken to ensure that covid-19 protocols are followed with utmost dedication.

However, the country witnessed 2,511 people testing positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as per latest figures by the National Command and Operation Centre. Other than that, the country has also reported 58 deaths taking the total number of fatalities due to the virus spread to 13,595.

Even though the country was quick to implement lockdown and announce closing down of major facilities except for essentials, there has been mismanagement in allocation of responsibilities to ensure that the guidelines are properly followed. The worst affected province is Sindh.

In Sindh, the tidal number of coronavirus cases have reached 261,582. Punjab too, is not far behind. It has seen 188,225 coronavirus cases till now. Their 24-hour reporting of positive cases is also extremely high. These two provinces are the more populated ones and from the start of the pandemic, they saw a continuous surge of cases.

Other than these, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also terribly hit by the pandemic. There are 76,379 registered cases of covid-1 followed by 48,495 in Islamabad and 19,233 in Balochistan.

Reports also revealed that the country has conducted 9,565,066 coronavirus tests and out of them 35,303 were in the last 24 hours. Except for a few countries in the world, the covid-19 situation is coming to a stability especially after the countries started inoculating its people. One of the worst affected countries is Brazil where there had been no lockdown since the covid-19 pandemic first came into existence. There are 120 million cases confirmed as of today and nearly three million people died due to this.
