Pakistan celebrated its 77th Independence Day with traditional zeal and fervour today, with ceremonies being held across the country. The day began with a 21 gun salute in the provincial headquarters. Prayers were offered by individuals in mosques, for peace, solidarity and prosperity across the country.
Islamabad saw the main event as the flag hoisting ceremony was done that had Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as chief guest. The same flag hoisting was seen in other provincial, divisional and district headquarters spread all over the nation.
Sirens went off at 7.58 am reminding the ceremony time at 8.00 am. The change of guard ceremony was held at the mausoleums of Allama Iqbal in Lahore and Quaid i Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah in Karachi.
Both public and private sector companies and organisations celebrated the importance of the day through hosting a range of programs and functions. There were photographic exhibitions, spill poetry, seminars and other events organised today.
President Zardari Seeks Unity;
Pak President Asif Ali Zardari facilitated the nation emphasising the importance of unity, integrity, and economic stability calling for investment on youth and women while reaffirming support for Kashmiris and Palestinians.
He stressed the importance of upholding the law, strengthening democratic institutions, and creating a business friendly environment. He reaffirmed Pak’s unwavering support to people in Gaza and Kashmir where they are mistreated by Israel and Indians respectively.
PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Address to the Nation;
PM Shehbaz Sharif said in a statement addressing the5 nation, “In a short span of time, our efforts have started yielding results. The economy is on its path to stability. The high inflation of 38% has come down to 11% and will soon be brought down to single digits.”
He said that over the past decades Pak has achieved various milestones as the resilience of Pakistani people had been tested through natural disasters and economic and social challenges.
