In a meeting at Asian Cricket Council (ACC), PCB head Najam Sethi said that, Losing hosting rights would be a huge loss for Pakistan Cricket Board and it is not an option for Pakistan in any case.
He added that, We worked out a plan to arrange Asia Cup in Hybrid model in which India will play its matches in any other country which would be a neutral venue and all the remaining matches will be played in Pakistan.
If Indians are willing to play normally in Pakistan, they are most welcome, if they want neutral venue we are ready but giving up hosting rights is mot possible for Pakistan, if it happens Pakistan will not play Asia Cup 2023, Chairman PCB added.
What is Hybrid Model
Under this model, all the other participating teams would play their matches in Pakistan while Indian team would play match in any other country. The BCCI earlier refused to play match in UAE due to hot weather.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India was suggesting Sri Lanka as the host country, and Pakistan was putting Oman as an option. Talks are still going on in this regard and final venue would be out in coming four to five days.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not accepted the suggestion of replacing the host country as it is a good chance for Pakistan to start international Cricket in home grounds. The board has taken a strong stance regarding upcoming world cup.
The Cricket board of Pakistan also decided to not to travel to India for upcoming World Cup if the Indian team does not participate in Asia Cup.
