Islamabad's pharmacy cough syrup declared dangerous

A pharmaceutical company based in Islamabad found itself in severe crises after the Drug Regularity Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) raided and sealed its syrup manufacturing department. The cough syrup produced by the pharmacy had been filled with toxic chemicals which are dangerous for health.

The cough syrup which is exported and sold on regular basis contain high levels of Diethylene Glycol and Ethylene glycol which are responsible for immediate death and even kidney failures. The Medicine Control Agency in Gambia reported about the dangerous effects of syrup to which DRAP took immediate action.

Syrups were exported to international market

Davis Pharmaceutical Laboratories, drug inspectors and officials are directed to seize all the suspicious products in the whole country. After all the investigations no products have been found in the pharmacies of Pakistan. The dangerous cough syrups were manufactured in 2021 and exported to international market.

Syrup samples have been sent to Drug Testing Laboratory of Drug Regularity Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). Drug Regularity authority issued strict instructions to manufacturers and cancelled the license of company owners accused the company of criminal negligence.

The incident came into notice after hundreds of children dying in Gambia and Indonesia from past six months due to acute kidney injuries. It shows that strict management and control measures are needed in pharmaceutical industry of country.
