US Must Take Necessary Steps To Escape Iran Talks Deadlock, Says Ghalibaf

Iran talks deadlock

The Iran talks deadlock was described by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf as a quagmire created by American political and military miscalculations. Addressing a parliamentary session in Tehran, he said the United States must take the necessary steps to break the impasse.

Iran Talks Deadlock Puts the Onus on Washington

Ghalibaf said Iran has nothing new to say and will not yield to media pressure tactics or military threats. He added that American claims and overtures will carry no credibility until Washington changes its behaviour and offers concrete amends in practice.

Trust Deficit After the Islamabad Talks

Ghalibaf reiterated deep distrust of Washington following the collapse of earlier Pakistan-brokered talks and what Tehran sees as violations of commitments. Iranian officials say trust cannot be gained unless the United States implements Iran’s seven conditions. The fact that those talks were held in Islamabad reflects the confidence both sides once placed in Pakistan as a venue and intermediary.

Face-to-face negotiations broke down earlier in the year after both sides traded blame over compliance, security guarantees and a US naval blockade affecting the Strait of Hormuz. The mediators’ continuing push is covered in Are US-Iran Talks Making Progress?

Demands, Deterrence and the Diplomatic Path

Iran’s National Security Council has introduced stringent demands, including an end to the US military presence in the region, the lifting of sanctions and the unfreezing of assets, before shipping routes can be fully restored. Iranian officials have also warned of an unimaginable response to any renewed aggression.

Such positions leave little room for quick compromise, so patient, step-by-step mediation remains the practical route. A phased arrangement covering maritime access, sanctions and security guarantees would suit Pakistan’s interests, since stable energy prices and calmer sea lanes support its economy, and its relationships with both capitals keep it well placed to help.
