US Rejects Iran’s Claim Of Control Over the Strait Of Hormuz

Hormuz control

US Central Command has rejected claims by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that Tehran exercises Hormuz control or would sink approaching US Navy warships. CENTCOM stated on X that the IRGC navy commander has no navy, and affirmed that US forces and regional partners clearly control the waterway.

Hormuz Control Claim Rejected by CENTCOM

The statement follows recent remarks by an IRGC navy commander asserting control over the strategic chokepoint amid ongoing maritime tensions. The exchange adds another layer to a standoff in which open sea lanes remain central to the wider talks.

Oil Shipments Continue Through the Strait

The US military noted that its forces helped Gulf partners transport more than 19 million barrels of crude oil through the strait. The figure highlights the scale of energy flows that still move through one of the world’s most important waterways.

Pakistan, which relies on imported energy, has a direct interest in secure and open shipping routes, as outlined in Strait of Hormuz, and stable passage helps protect fuel supply and keeps pressure off domestic prices.

Diplomacy Remains the Practical Path

Iran is reviewing US proposals while indirect messages continue, with Pakistan and Qatar serving as the primary channels between Tehran and Washington, and that role reflects the trust Pakistan has built with both sides and strengthens its standing as a responsible regional partner.

Rival claims of control raise the risk of miscalculation at sea, so clear navigation rules and sustained mediation would serve all parties. A negotiated arrangement on maritime access, sanctions and nuclear limits would protect global trade and give importing economies such as Pakistan far greater certainty.
