Fighter Aircraft deal between Pakistan & Iraq

Iraq initiated the deal with Pakistan to purchase JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft. Iraq became the fifth country to finalize an aircraft deal with Pakistan.

Pakistan has been jointly working with China on aircraft, also said to export its JF-17 Block III aircraft to Malaysia, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, and Myanmar. After getting the update on Pakistan’s thunder aircraft many countries approached Pakistan. They have shown greater interest in Pakistan’s pride.

The sources said that Iraq has offered an amount of $664 million for purchasing 12 JF-17 Thunder Block III fighter jets from Pakistan. Earlier, Arengtine had also studied the details of combat aircraft of Pakistan.

Iraq also signed a contract with a Pakistani company to purchase an unspecified number of aircraft, believed to be JF-17 Block III.

The Iraqi Defense Minister Jumaa Inad has quoted saying, “We signed a contract with a Pakistani company to purchase aircraft”. The planning for the sale of jets continued for more than two years. Both the Pakistani and Iraqi government approved the defence deal of aircrafts.

Threats to Iraq

Iraq is interested in getting aircrafts from Pakistan as it could be a help to country to use them against drones as Iraq is in continuous threats. Iraq went for JF-17 Block III jets which are latest model of the successful JF-17.

This deal would be the biggest defence deal between the two countries in about forty years. Nigeria also inducted Pakistani JF-17 Thunder aircraft in its airforce and they are fully satisfied with its services.
