farmers’ protest cancelled after punjab government talks
The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) decided to Cancel their Planned Protest after fruitful discussions with the Punjab Government as per Reports from News. Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani met with a 10-member Delegation from the Farmers‘ Group to tackle the Challenges faced by Farmers in the Province.
Initially PKI had announced a Protest after Eidul Fitr if their issues Remained Unresolved by the Government. However Minister Kirmani’s meeting with Community Leaders led to the Formation of a joint investigation Committee (JIT) aimed at Resolving Farmers’ Grievances.
The Committee including Provincial Agriculture and Food Ministers Department Secretaries and PKI Representatives will Look into the Wheat import during the Previous Caretaker Government’s Tenure. Additionally the Provincial Government Pledged to Provide interest-free Loans to Farmers and Distribute Nawaz Sharif Kissan Cards to around 1.5 Million Farmers.
Furthermore Punjab Plans to set up 41 Agriculture Facilitation Centres and Offer Discounted Solar tube wells to improve Agricultural infrastructure.
Previously Kissan Ittehad President Mian Umer Criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for Allegedly Neglecting the Agriculture Sector. He accused the Government of failing to Ensure that the Sugar Mafia adequately Compensated Farmers for their Sugarcane.
Moreover PKI urged the Federal Government to declare a Nationwide Agricultural Emergency Highlighting the Urgency of addressing the Sector’s Challenges.
