Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis claimed responsibility Monday for the Dammam airport attack, saying they targeted the airport in eastern Saudi Arabia. The claim comes after weeks of attacks on the oil-rich kingdom and has not been independently verified.

Dammam Airport Attack Claimed Amid Weeks Of Strikes

The armed forces targeted the airport in two phases using two drones over 48 hours, military spokesman Yahya Saree said. He said the operation disrupted air traffic, and strikes were carried out against a Saudi early-warning radar and a military transport plane in the southwest.

Coalition Response And Humanitarian Toll

The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed two drones over the area of Riyadh. This was announced by coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki on X, without mentioning any perpetrator and showing the readiness of air defences around the capital.

The Houthis are fighting a coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government, in a civil war that reignited in July after a long truce. The United Nations says more than 1,600 people have died and more than 300,000 have been displaced since fighting restarted, a reminder of the human cost behind the headlines.

Rock Solid Support Of Pakistan For Saudi Arabia

Pakistan is a close ally of the kingdom, and its commitment to defend Saudi Arabia amid regional tensions is proof of a relationship built on faith, trade and common security interests. Reports of a possible deployment of 25,000 troops indicate the seriousness with which both sides view defence cooperation, while the ISPR tribute song for Saudi National Day indicates the warmth of public sentiment.

The continued concern about airports and holy places is explained by previous attacks. Regional security is also on the agenda, with smoke and flight disruptions at Riyadh airport and a drone interception near Makkah. With a large diaspora in the kingdom and strong links across the Gulf, Pakistan is well placed to promote de-escalation while ensuring the welfare of its citizens abroad.
