Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced one of the biggest welfare-centric housing schemes in the province by launching the Free Land Scheme 2026 under the umbrella of the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” program. The scheme has been devised to provide free 3-marla residential plots in different districts of Punjab to the landless and homeless low-income families.
The program is indicative of the provincial government’s increasing focus on social welfare, affordable housing and inclusive development. Low-income households across Pakistan face rising housing costs and limited opportunities for property ownership. The Punjab government said the scheme is to give deserving families a chance to buy permanent housing and improve long-term living conditions.
Officials said thousands of plots are expected to be distributed in phases, and the first phase already covers more than 19 districts across Punjab. The scheme has drawn a lot of public interest, with free residential plots being offered along with other incentives such as interest-free construction loans for eligible beneficiaries.
Punjab Free Land Scheme 2026 Targets Homeless and Low-Income Families
The Free Land Scheme 2026 is primarily aimed at families that do not have any residential property or land. As per the scheme, the beneficiaries will be provided free plots of 3 marla each, measuring around 675 square feet.
This housing project is part of the broader “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” vision to improve access to housing for deserving citizens of all of Punjab. The authorities said the program is aimed at supporting vulnerable communities while promoting stable residential development across urban and semi-urban districts.
Widows, orphans, labourers and differently-abled persons are being given special preference. The targeted approach has been designed so that the benefits are directed to families with the greatest financial and housing challenges.
Officials said Phase I covers almost 1,892 plots under 23 schemes in 19 districts. There are also expected plans for expansion in the coming months, including flats for housing in Lahore and more homes in cities like Taxila.
The larger housing initiative is expected to deliver almost 100,000 houses and flats over time, making it one of Punjab’s biggest social housing schemes in recent years.
Eligibility Criteria for CM Maryam’s Free Plot Scheme 2026
To ensure transparent distribution and fair access to deserving applicants, the Punjab government has established certain eligibility criteria.
Candidates must be domiciled in Punjab and possess a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). Under the scheme, only those persons or families who do not own any plot, house or land can apply.
The program is designed for low-income, deserving households facing housing insecurity. They must also have no criminal record to be eligible for the scheme.
Another important condition is that applications can only be made for housing schemes within the applicant’s own district. This measure aims at providing better support to residents and at achieving a balanced regional distribution.
District-level committees would monitor the process of verification and selection, officials said. Transparent computerised voting procedures will be used to finalise beneficiaries fairly.
How to Apply Online for the Punjab Housing Plot Scheme
Once the applications are officially launched, the eligible residents will be able to apply for the scheme both online and offline.
The online application procedure can be made from the official Apni Chhat Apna Ghar portal at ACAG.Punjab.gov.pk. The registration form, upload of necessary documents and submission of applications are done online.
Paper applications can also be picked up at local Assistant Commissioner offices or District Housing Authorities by residents without ready access to the internet. The government’s facilitation at district offices is aimed at providing accessibility to the applicants of rural and underdeveloped areas.
The government of Punjab has also announced that there will be no application fee for the scheme. The decision has been hailed as a move toward inclusivity and equal opportunity for low-income households.
You will need to bring your CNIC (valid), proof of income and an affidavit stating that you do not own any other property or plot.
Interest-Free Construction Loans Add Major Relief for Beneficiaries
The Punjab government is also offering interest-free construction loans up to Rs. 1.5 million to selected beneficiaries in addition to free residential plots. The loans are intended to help families start building without putting a heavy financial strain on them.
The financing option is more manageable for low-income households as the repayments can be spread over seven years, officials said. The combination of free land allotment and construction assistance is being touted as a major welfare-oriented move in Pakistan’s housing sector.
The move could help boost social stability, economic activity and community development in Punjab, say housing experts. The program could help raise standards of living by encouraging home-ownership for families that deserve it and boost confidence in public welfare projects.
With registrations still attracting public interest, the Free Land Scheme 2026 is rapidly emerging as one of Punjab’s most ambitious affordable housing schemes to generate long-term opportunities for the homeless and financially vulnerable residents.
