The Pakistan economy improvement witnessed an increase during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27, July-September 2026, with the external buffers strengthening and inflows increasing, according to a scorecard circulated by Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad and Radio Pakistan reports.

Pakistan Economy Improvement Shows In First Quarter

Central bank reserves reached $21.5 billion, providing the economy with a more solid cushion against external shocks. Exports grew 11 percent year-on-year to $11.2 billion, suggesting that Pakistani manufacturers and traders are becoming more competitive in foreign markets.

Workers’ remittances stood at $10.9 billion, reflecting the continued support of overseas Pakistanis to household incomes and the foreign exchange position. Foreign direct investment rose by 20% to around $720 million, a sign of growing confidence among international investors.

Market, Rating And Revenue Growth

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has increased its investor base to 656,218, reflecting widening public participation in the capital market, and a bigger base of retail investors can deepen liquidity and provide businesses better access to domestic funding.

Major international rating agencies have also kept stable outlooks for Pakistan. Positive investor sentiment is underpinned by stable assessments and assists the country in its efforts to borrow at better terms.

Federal Board of Revenue collection increased 7% year-on-year and exceeded the quarterly target by PKR 33 billion. Improved tax performance gives more fiscal space for development spending and strengthens the credibility of the reform program.

Local Monetary And Risk Response

The State Bank of Pakistan raised the policy rate by 50 basis points to 12% amid inflationary pressures and supply risks stemming from the escalating Middle East conflict, also, the decision reflects a cautious and forward-looking stance with a focus on price stability.

The quarter also posted a current account deficit of $874 million, but full-year forecasts see the deficit as low at 0% to 1% of GDP, demonstrating external accounts are manageable.
