Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building disaster-resilient communities across Pakistan, stressing the need for proactive measures to reduce disaster risks, and the message was shared on X to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Disaster-Resilient Communities Remain a National Priority
The prime minister said that prevention today is essential for protection tomorrow, and the statement reflects a forward-looking approach that places preparedness at the centre of national planning and public safety.
Preparedness Protects Development Gains
Shehbaz Sharif noted that disasters can reverse years of development in a single day, underlining why effective risk management matters for every province and district, and investment in early preparation, he indicated, safeguards homes, livelihoods and public infrastructure.
Such a focus is especially relevant for a country that has shown resilience in the face of repeated climate-related challenges. Strengthening readiness helps protect progress already made in health, education, agriculture and connectivity.
Climate Planning and Stronger Partnerships
The prime minister said the government is working to integrate disaster risk reduction into climate and development plans as climate-related risks continue to grow, and embedding resilience within wider policy frameworks allows departments to coordinate more effectively and plan for long-term needs.
He also emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships to protect vulnerable communities and minimise the impact of disasters, and collaboration among federal and provincial institutions, civil society and international partners can expand access to early warning, training and recovery support, giving Pakistan a firmer foundation for a safer future.
